Athens, Greece

Date of this adventure: February 22, 2013

Our evening in Athens was quite rainy. We got to fall asleep hearing thunderstorms! (We hadn't heard thunder since last summer in Texas.) The next morning, we were told that it rained more that night than it had in the entire previous year in Athens. How's that for a welcome to Greece?

As it was still sprinkling the next morning, we spent the first half of our day exploring the indoor attractions the city had to offer.
Our first stop was the National Archaeological Museum. This museum features artifacts and art from the Minoans.

The famous golden Mask of Agamemnon

After a few hours at the museum, we headed to try some gyros for lunch.
Delicious!

Plaka is a lovely historic neighborhood located at the base of Acropolis hill.

Hephaistion
After roaming around the ruins, we began our climb up Areopagus (aka-Mars Hill)! Mars Hill is where Paul gave the speech seen in Acts 17:22-31.
We really enjoyed picturing this Biblical scene happening right where we were standing.
These are the views you see as you are standing on Mars Hill.

(Can spot me in the photo below?)

James and I met with Liz and Greg for dinner. (They just so happened to be in Athens the same weekend we were!) We met at a fabulous restaurant, Vezene, that Greg had chosen.
Liz and me with the glass running man sculpture, Dromeas.
Thanks for a wonderful evening, Liz and Greg!
